MANALI: Seven leaders from private as well as government organisations cycled over 500km across the Himalayas and met local heroes as well as community leaders in an effort draw attention towards the issue of climate change.
The leaders gathered in Shimla and commenced the historic ride on September 5. There were about 40 more cyclists in the expedition, including kids as young as 13 and adults as old as 50.
Suresh Kishnani, chief commissioner CGST, North Zone who flagged off the ‘CtrlS India’s Leaders Ride 2021’ said, “It is heartening to see the leaders from across India showing deep interest in endurance cycling and in climate change. We are happy to extend whatever support to them.”
Moving on the route of Shimla – Narkanda – Sarahan – Akpa – Nako – Tabo – Kaza – Langza – Batal, the expedition ended at Manali on September 13.
At Manali, the cyclists were felicitated for their feats after having endured tough terrains and harsh weather for over 9 days.
This is the first one of multiple such cycling expeditions planned across the Indian subcontinent for supporting the cause of climate change.
