WITH 85% LIFTING, JALANDHAR EMERGES AS A LEADING DISTRICT IN WHEAT PROCUREMENT IN STATE: GHANSHYAM THORI

SAYS, 478953 MT PRODUCE LIFTED AGAINST 576989 MT PROCUREMENT

PAYMENT WORTH RS. 1010.10 CRORE MADE TO FARMERS

Jalandhar, May 06 (TECHNO NEWS): By lifting 85 percent of the total wheat crop and making payment of over Rs. 1000 crore to farmers, Jalandhar has emerged as a leading district in the state in the wheat procurement season.

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that as many as 478953 Metric Tons (MTs) produce has been lifted by the procurement agencies out of a total of 576989 MT purchased crops. He said that not only purchase and lifting, the administration has also laid the thrust on payments as a whopping amount of Rs. 1010.10 crore was paid to the farmers to date, which was 91 percent of the total invoices generated placing Jalandhar among the top-performing districts in procurement.

The DC further said that to ensure the purchasing and lifting of every single food grain of the farmers, all the concerned departments have worked in tandem to achieve this goal. He also added that elaborate arrangements were made at all 137 purchase centers so that farmers don’t face any kind of trouble while selling their crops in the Mandi, especially amid the Corona Virus pandemic. He mentioned that Covid appropriate behavior was properly adopted in the grain markets ranging from special passes for farmers, special pits, sanitization, distribution of face masks, to vaccination or RT-PCR testing.

Pointing out further, District Food and Civil Supplies Controller Narinder Singh stated that by purchasing 172676 MTs wheat, Pungrain has made the highest procurement in the district followed by Markfed, Punsup, PSWC, and FCI with 160077, 120925, 75352, and 47818 MTs purchase. He stated that a sufficient amount of Bardana was made available in the grain markets to ensure prompt lifting of the crops adding that the district administration has left no stone unturned to make this procurement a smooth and hassle-free affair.
