ESTIMATING THE QUANTITY OF MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR 1 CUBIC METER CONCRETING

ESTIMATING THE QUANTITY OF MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR 1 CUBIC METER CONCRETING

FOR 1 CUBIC METER CONCRETING OF MIX DESIGN M 25

WET VOLUME = 1m x 1m x 1m = 1 cubic meter

DRY VOLUME = wet volume + 54% of wet volume = 1+ (54/100 x 1) = 1 + 0.54 = 1.54

Now for M25 design mix

Mix ratio = 1:1:2 (CEMENT: FINE AGGREGATES: COURSE AGGREGATES)

Sum of ratio = 1+1+2= 4

Wet volume = 1 cubic meter

Dry volume = 1.54 x 1 = 1.54

Calculation for cement

Density of cement = 1440 kg per cubic meter

Weight of 1 bag of cement = 50 kg

Quantity of cement bags required for M25 grade for 1 cubic meter work

(1 x 1.54 x 1440) / (4 x 50) = 11.09 bags

Quantity of fine aggregates i.e. sand

= (1 x 1.54)/4 = 0.385 cubic meter

Quantity of course aggregates

= (2 x 1.54)/4 = 0.77 cubic meter

Similarly, for all mix design we can calculate quantity of materials required. Below is the table showing quantity of materials required for important mix design ratios.

MIX DESIGN CEMENT

(in BAGS)

SAND

(In cubic meter)

AGGREGATE

(In cubic meter)

M 10 (1:4:8) 3.411692 0.473846 0.947692
M 15 (1:2:4) 6.336 0.44 0.88
M 20 (1:1.5:3) 8.064 0.42 0.84
M 25 (1:1:2) 11.088 0.385 0.77
M 30 (1:0.75:1.5) 13.64677 0.355385 0.710769

THE NUMBER OF CEMENT BAGS CAN BE ROUNDED OF i.e. FOR EXAMPLE IN M10 DESIGN MIX TAKE 4BAGS OF CEMENT.
