TOP IAS OFFICER RAVI MITTAL APPOINTED AS NEW IBBI CHIEF

The Union government on Thursday cleared the appointment of senior administrator and Bihar- cadre IAS officer Ravi Mittal as chairman of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India.

Ravi Mittal, former secretary at the Department of Sports, is likely to take over as the chairman of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), according to a note privately circulated by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has cleared Ravi Mittal’s appointment, the February 2 note said. The appointment will be subject to approval from the Prime Minister Office.

Ravi Mittal would head the IBBI for five years or till he is 65 years of age, whichever is early, as per the note, which ET has seen.

The IBBI is a regulatory institution set up by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs for enforcing the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. The board regulates corporate insolvency and resolution processes. It also regulates insolvency professionals and information utilities.

The chairman’s post at the IBBI fell vacant after MS Sahoo retired on September 30 last year after completing his five-year tenure. Navrang Saini, a whole-time member of the board, was given the additional charge of IBBI chief for the interim period till the position was filled.

A 1986 batch IAS officer from the Bihar cadre, Ravi Mittal was appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in April 2020, replacing Radhey Shyam Julaniya. In June 2021, Mittal also took additional charge as Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship secretary. Prior to this, he has also held the post as Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
