ikea: Swedish retailer IKEA to launch India’s first City Store in Mumbai

IKEA is set open India’s first city store in Mumbai’s Worli area; the Swedish furnishing retailer already has a large-format store in Navi Mumbai, which opened last year.”In line with IKEA’s long-term commitment to Maharashtra and India, the Worli store will be the first of its kind in India, following cities such as Paris, Moscow and Shanghai,” IKEA said in a statement.The retailer is set to follow up the Worli City Store with another one in Mumbai, saying in its statement that ‘it believes strongly in the Indian market’s potential.’

IKEA’s new store in Kamala Mills is designed for smaller spaces, measuring in at around 50,000 – 1,00,000 sq ft, as opposed to the the traditional blue box stores, which are typically 4,00,000 – 5,00,000 sq ft.”The store in Worli will be 80,000 sq ft and will open towards the end of 2021, complete with all safe shopping measures in place,” the statement added.Mumbai’s new store will have a restaurant and services like remote planning and personal shoppers, as well as Click & Collect.”With our first IKEA India city store in Worli, we will continue to meet many more people in Mumbai with our beautiful, affordable and sustainable home furnishings solutions for creating a better everyday life at home,” IKEA India Market and Expansion Manager Per Hornell said.The Kamala Mills City Store will be IKEA’s third in the country, with Hyderabad home to the first, opened in 2019, and Navi Mumbai home to the second.
