NITIE Mumbai, launches a 30-hour weekend course – ‘Global Online Certification on Business and Operations Analytics’

The National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai, a leading institute for Management Studies, has launched the ‘Global Online Certification Course on Business and Operations Analytics’ in collaboration with Prof. David Simchi-Levi from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. It is a 30-hour weekend-only course from 3rd July’21 to 5th September’21 for students, academicians and Industry professionals to help them create value for businesses using data analytics. The course was inaugurated online on July 3rd, 2021 by Honorable Chief Guests – Mr. Ajay Kumar (Defence Secretary of India), Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty (Chairman BoG – NITIE and Chairman – Allcargo Logistics Ltd), and Mr. Sanat Chattopadhyay (President, Merck).

The ability to use data effectively to drive rapid, precise, and profitable decisions has been a critical strategic advantage for companies as diverse as Walmart, Google, Nike, Capital One, and Disney. With business analytics being an integral part of modern management, this course will provide a foundation to understand and apply analytical methods for driving value in business. During the inauguration, Dr. Ajay Kumar also said that there is a tremendous opportunity with respect to ambitions in Make in India with a program like this. Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty highlighted how this course would help the growth of manufacturing and other industries in India. Mr. Sanat Chattopadhyay iterated the evolution of analytics and its importance to analyze and visualize trends in real- time, pin-point business problems and make informed business decisions. He highlighted that “Business Analytics is the future of business intelligence and big data analytics”. All the chief guests conveyed the importance of analytics and gave various examples of its usage in today’s technology-driven world.

Prof. Simchi-Levi will use his extensive experience from this field to analyze case studies of organizations that successfully deployed these techniques. It will help the attendees to develop a critical thinking and address a multitude of opportunities for business transformation.

A total of 3000 individuals from 350+ prestigious national and international organizations have participated proactively in the course. The course includes participants from all over the world from 17+ countries including USA, Dubai, Singapore, Scotland, UK, Mexico, Sweden, and many more. Some prominent academic institutions include IITs, IIMs, IIFT, JBIMS, IIFT, London Metropolitan University, Cranfield University and some eminent organizations include Amazon, P&G, GE, Asian Paints, Micron, Honeywell, PWC, Deloitte, and alike.

NITIE was established in 1963 by the Government of India with a purpose to advance transformative education and industry-inspired research, thus helping Indian businesses to make their presence felt globally. NITIE’s Director, Prof. Manoj Tiwari, who has extensive experience in Optimization, Simulation, and Computational Intelligence of complex Supply Chain Networks, is spearheading the course to carry forward this purpose. Majority of the course sessions will be conducted by Prof. David Simchi-Levi, a renowned Professor and Thought Leader in the field of Business Analytics. Prof. Simchi-Levi also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Management Science and is the recipient of the prestigious INFORMS Impact Prize 2020 for his work on Supply Chain Resilience.
