DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION HAD PROPOSED A VEHICULAR UNDERPASS AT THIS BUSIEST CROSSING

NHAI PREPARES DPR AND ESTIMATE FOR THE PROJECT, TENDERS TO BE FLOATED AFTER THE FINAL APPROVAL

Jalandhar, May 30 (TECHNO NEWS): To minimize the traffic problem at Dakoha Railway Crossing, a vehicular underpass (VUP) would be constructed at this busiest rail traffic point in the city at Rs. 15 crores. The proposal for this project was made by the District Administration Jalandhar, following which a detailed project report and project estimate have been prepared by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials.

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori stated that the crossing falls on one of the busiest Amritsar-Delhi rail routes and heavy traffic goes through this crossing daily. He said that at this railway crossing, the train vehicle unit has crossed the mark of one lakh and it has qualified the criteria for the construction of RUB/ROB/VUP here.

Mr. Thori said this railway crossing remains closed most of the time due to the heavy flow of trains which causes long queues of traffic jams here. Sometimes, this crossing remains shut for prolonged timings, leading to major inconvenience to people, he said. He also mentioned that during the peak hours the traffic piles up at NH-44 due to the closure of this crossing, which in turn forms an accident black-spot in this area.

The DC said that the feasibility survey was also carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD) at this place, which suggested that a RUB/ROB was not possible here due to the proximity of this crossing to the NH-44, thus the problem could be sorted out by setting up of a VUP here.

Pointing out further, NHAI Project Director Varinder Singh said that the vehicular underpass (VUP) would cost around Rs. 15 crores, and a DPR and estimate have been sent to the higher authorities of NHAI. After the proposal gets approval, the tenders for the project would be floated by the authority, he added.
