MUMBAI: Dadar police on Tuesday submitted a chargesheet in the SRA flat cheating scam case, in which they had recorded the statement of former mayor and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Kishori Pednekar last year.
Pednekar’s name has not been included in the chargesheet, but police said the investigation would continue.
Sources said the 500-page chargesheet names BMC officers Sanjay Lokhande, Sanjay Kamble and alleged tout Chandrakant Chavan who have been booked under the relevant IPC sections for cheating and forgery. They had allegedly availed Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) flats in Worli at cheap rates and duped eight to nine people of Rs 1.3 crore.
“We have submitted a chargesheet against these people and have sought permission from the court under CrPC 173 (8) to keep the investigation open,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity. Lokhande, Kamble and Chavan are in jail, and five others are on the run, said police.
In another case, last week, Nirmal Nagar police had registered an FIR against Pednekar, her son Saiprasad and three others on a complaint of an SRA official for allegedly fraudulently taking flats meant for slumdwellers.
Earlier, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya had filed a PIL in the Bombay high court alleging that Pednekar had misused her power as a corporator and illegally grabbed the properties which were meant for slum dwellers of Gomata Janata SRA society.
