NANDED 30/12/2022 (TECHNO REPORTER): On the occasion of the festival season a monthly meeting of the NANDED Chapter was held at the holy city NANDED on the 31st of December 2022.

Nanded is a city in Maharashtra state, India. It is the tenth largest city in the state and the seventy-ninth most populous city in India. It is the second largest city in Marathwada region. It is the district headquarters of Nanded district.

The last Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh spent his last days in Nanded and passed his guruship to the sacred text Guru Granth Sahib before his death here in 1708.

Nanded is located on the banks of river Godavari in west-central India. Nanded district borders Latur district, Parbhani district and Hingoli district to the west and Yavatmal district to the north. The district is bordered by the Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Nirmal and Adilabad districts of Telangana state to the east and Bidar district of Karnataka state to the south.

Nanded has two parts: Old Nanded 20.62 square kilometres (7.96 sq mi) occupies the north bank of the Godavari river; New Nanded, to the south of the river, 31.14 square kilometres (12.02 sq mi) encompasses Waghala and neighbourhoods.

Nanded is a town of great antiquity. It is said that during the Puranic days, Pandavas traveled through Nanded district. Nanded also formed part of the Mauryan Empire during the reign of Emperor Ashoka the great. 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh made Nanded as his permanent abode and passed Guruship to Guru Granth Sahib before his death in 1708 in Nanded.

A beguiling mix of ancient and modern, Nanded is one of the oldest and most historic cities that came under the rule of various dynasties such as the Satvahanas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Kakatiyas, Yadavas, Bahamanis, Adilshahis and finally the Mughals. Situated on the banks of River Godavari.

It is famous today for its undisputed highlight, the establishment of Gurudwara Hazur Sahib, where Guru Gobind Singh Ji – the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, breathed his last, devoting his entire life to the service of mankind.

The city also houses various Sufi shrines, a beautiful waterfall of Sahastrakud and the Kandhar Fort. A huge statue of Kshetrapala is located here. Now in a broken condition, the statue was estimated to be taller than 50 feet. The Chalukya-era Hottal temple near Deglur is also worth a visit.
