CIVIL ENGINEERS WILL BE APPOINTED TO OVERSEE WORKS IN LOCAL BODIES
The local self-government department will create a pool of certified civil engineers to oversee and ensure the quality of civil works, including the construction of roads and buildings, in local bodies. Contractors should appoint certified engineers from the pool.
Engineers will be appointed to oversee the public works in local body institutions which will mean employment opportunities for around 10,000 people. Appointments will be for degree, diploma, and certificate holders in Civil Engineering. The government had recently decided to appoint Solid Waste Management Engineers in all municipalities.
Although the engineers are employed by contractors below the steering of the native physique establishments, this value too shall be included within the estimate and utilized in setting the situations for the tender process. The performance and skill of the engineers will be considered for registration renewal. Raising the grade of C and B categories of engineers will be done based on their experience.
Projects up to an estimated cost of Rs. 5 lakh will be supervised by a person from the C grade, while those between Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 75 Lakh will be monitored by those from B Grade. Projects costing between Rs. 75 lakh and Rs. 1.5 crore by a person each from the A and B Grades.
For works with an estimated cost between Rs. 1.5 crore and Rs. 2.5 crore, an A grade engineer with three years of work experience has to be appointed as work manager, and an A grade and B grade engineer with one-year work experience as site engineers.
Registration from September : The registration process is expected to start in September 2022. The registration process will be getting from the websites of the Local self-governing department (LSGD) or Integrated Local Management System (ILMS). The preference will be given to the engineers nearer to the project area. The remuneration will be given by the contractors and this will also be included in the tender.
