BLOOD DONATION CAMPS CONTINUES FOR THE SECOND DAY IN RED CROSS SOCIETY
DC APPEALS BLOOD DONORS TO COME FORWARD FOR THIS NOBLE CAUSE
Jalandhar, May 11 (TECHNO NEWS): On the directives of Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, another blood donation camp was held in the campus Red Cross Society on Tuesday, where around 28 units of blood have been collected in two camps.
Divulging the details, Secretary Red Cross Society Inderdev Singh stated that the first camp was held on Friday wherein 16 blood units were collected and today 12 units of blood donated by the doners by the afternoon.
The Secretary said that the move was aimed at ensuring sufficient availability of blood in hospitals amid the Covid-19 pandemic so that patients especially those suffering from chronic disease don’t face any kind of hardship for blood.
Pointing out further Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori mentioned that it has come to his notice that there has been a halt on blood donation camps since the pandemic has begun resulting in a shortage of blood in the blood banks. He further added that patients suffering from cancer, thalassemia, and some maternity cases require blood during the treatment, hence holding small blood donation camps would be helpful for them. He called upon people to come forward for the blood donation as a humane gesture to help distressed patients.
District Immunization Officer Dr. Rakesh Chopra stated that as per the latest orders issued by the union health ministry, the people vaccinated for Covid-19 are advised to donate blood after the completion of 14 days of each of the doses adding that the non-vaccinated people can continue with the blood donation in routine.
