Faridabad: Illegal buildings at Khori may be razed soon

GURUGRAM: Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) commissioner Garima Mittal on Tuesday said that the demolition of illegal buildings, as per the directions of the Supreme Court, will be carried out soon in the area.

Ahead of demolition of around 10,000 houses in Faridabad’s Khori village, the commissioner along with police and MCF officials visited the village on Tuesday to review the situation on the ground.

The locals said that the officials, who visited the village on Tuesday, told them to vacate their houses since they said that demolition will take place on Wednesday and the earth-movers had already reached near the village. Security has been beefed up in the village and the police deployment has also been augmented.

Sources said that the demolition of the unauthorised houses constructed on the Aravali land will be carried out by police and MCF teams on Wednesday. The MCF commissioner did not respond to calls and messages despite repeated attempts.

“Officials told us to vacate our houses and said that demolition will take place on Wednesday. We had planned a mahapanchayat on Wednesday, however, we are not too certain whether that will happen or not since the officials are saying that the demolition will be held on Wednesday,” said Satender Kumar, a resident of Khori village.

“The MCF commissioner visited the Khori village and then held a meeting with the police and local administration officials. While addressing the officials in the meeting, she said that the orders of the Supreme Court will be followed and duties have been assigned and teams constituted to carry out demolition,” said the official press release issued by the MCF.

It was on June 30 that a clash broke out between the residents and police. The incident took place as the police tried to stop the gathering for a mahapanchayat in the village. The police baton-charged them after villagers did not disperse after repeated appeals and villagers also pelted the policemen with stones. The farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni had also reached the village to join the protest. It was on June 30 that the protesters had decided to hold a mahapanchayat on July 7 if their demand of rehabilitation was not met.
