BIO-REMEDIATION WOULD ENABLE CLOSING OF 8-LAKH METRIC TONNE GARBAGE DUMP AT WARIANA VILLAGE

Jalandhar, June 2- In a major development, two projects of nearly Rs. 84 crore have been cleared by the executive committee of smart city mission by issuing work orders to the lowest bidders on Wednesday.

After participating in the virtual meeting of the committee Chaired by CEO PMIDC Ajoy Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that these projects would further strengthen the basic infrastructure while ensuring holistic development of the city.

Divulging the details, the deputy commissioner said that the smart city mission has allotted the project of closing of 8-lakh metric tonne garbage dump at Wariana village in the next two years at a cost of Rs 32.11 crore by initiating bio-remediation method at the site. He said that this project would provide major relief to the city as this massive dump would be cleared in a scientific manner.

The DC stated that the work order for another project costing Rs. 51.38 to develop smart roads in the Area Based Development (ABD) areas has also been issued by the committee. He stated that civil works, horticulture works, stormwater drainage system, and electric works including overhead high-tension electrical works to be carried out under this project.

Mr. Thori added that as per revised DPR some new portions of roads have been added in the project that includes Kapurthala Chowk to HMV Chowk Road, Service road and green belt from HMV chowk to DAV flyover, the road from Sabji Mandi chowk to HMV chowk including slip roads, and providing street light poles from Junction point at 120 Feet road and Kapurthala road up to MCJ boundary.

Pointing out further, the DC said that the development of smart roads in ABD areas includes installation of CCTV cameras, sensors, and solar panels, resurfacing and widening of pedestrian pathways, plantation at the median green strips, resurfacing of carriageway pavement, underground utility ducts for telecommunications cables, underground stormwater drainage RCC pipes, provision of signage, road marking and directional arrows, seating arrangements and landscaping, on-street parking, and development of green belts. He mentioned that as per the approved DPR the project has to be completed within the duration of 12 months.

The deputy commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring time-bound and quality development works in the district being carried out under various projects and schemes. He said that no stone would be left unturned to complete these projects within the timeline while directing the executing agencies to take care of the quality of these works.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jalandhar Karnesh Sharma said that the municipal corporation would ensure proper monitoring of both of these projects so that the target of their timely completion along with quality concerns could be achieved in letter and spirit.
